Yamaha HL500 for sale

Yamaha HL500 for sale, but this is no run of the mill HL500, not that any HL500 Yamaha is run of the mill. This is a Yamaha HL500 Eatough, one of twelve ever built by Michael Eatough who built the frames for the iconic CCM Moto crossers of the 1970s and 80s. The original Yamaha HL500 is a very rare motorcycle indeed and is steeped in history. A Swedish pair, Hallman and Lundin along with rider Stefan Aberg, realised that the CCMs were dominant over the wild two stroke racers because of their four stroke traction and lightweight frame design. Yamaha had just released the XT500 single cylinder 500cc four stroke and it had proved reliable and ready to have much more power extracted. They took a Husqvarna frame, sucked 50 HP out of the Yamaha lump and started racing, much to Yamaha’s fury at the time. Within two years, Yamaha not only bowed to Hallman and Lundin’s skill and set about making their own limited edition run of HL500 replicas, totalling 400 motorcycles over two years. You can read more about Yamaha’s HL500 and the Hallman and Lundin project here.

Yamaha HL500 Eatough

No one really remembers how these twelve Yamaha HL500 Eatough motorcycles came about, as Eatough was incredibly busy building frames for CCM. It is believed that when Yamaha were seeking out their frame manufacturer for the HL500 replica, they approached several sources and one of those was Michael Eatough. They would have knocked Eatough back on the grounds of cost as CCM, with their nickel plated, hand braised frames, were very expensive indeed. It seems that between seven and twelve of these machines were built and they are far superior to Yamaha’s HL500 replica. Yamaha finally settled on an NVT frame, which was quite poor and very fragile, prior to the companies demise. Those 400 Yamaha HL500 replicas are highly collectible, regularly changing hands for £15,000+ and these Eatoughs are much more collectible.

Classic Yamaha motorcycles

This is one of the rarest classic Yamaha motorcycles ever built and looks astounding. It comes from my personal collection because I will not get the time required over the next five years to restore it. It is 98% complete and only requires the rear swing arm re-nickel plating, a carb, cables and oil lines to fire it straight up and get riding. It comes with a brand new set of Hagon shocks the correct length included in the sale. We cannot take on the restoration until next April and can do a fixed price restoration for you, or you can take it away as it is now. This is the perfect twin shock moto cross motorcycle for sale. You will never have the chance to access a great classic Japanese motorcycle investment as taking on this moto cross monster.
